There are tons of essay writing contests held each year, all over the world. If you do your research carefully, you’ll come up with a sizeable number of essay writing competitions.
Nevertheless, as a general rule (intended for good purpose): don’t participate in essay writing contests for the sake of prizes (especially in form of money). First of all, understand what an essay is, why essays are written or why there are essay contests. Prizes are a gratitude for a work well-done i.e writing essays.
Below, I have compiled a number of essay writing competitions from around the world. Try to participate in as many as you can be able. You never know which essay writing contest you may land on. Good luck and best wishes.
Source 1) Write-Right Essay Writing Contests
Write-Right is welcoming all talented writers to try their hands on their essay writing contest. If you are passionate about writing and have writing skills, then those are the only requirements they require of you.
The essay should be between 500-1000 words and should only be in English. You are required to include all the references "to the sources you used for writing your essay." Ensure your essay is original (has not been plagiarized). They are against plagiarizing. Therefore, cite your sources as is required in an essay.
The competition runs from March 1- June 26, 2016. The result will be announced on July 1, 2016 and the winners will be notified through e-mail.
The first winner will walk away with $200 Amazon Gift Card
The second winner will walk away with $100 Amazon Gift Card
The third winner will walk away with $50 Amazon Gift Card
Write-Right has listed the topics you are required to write your essay. Choose the topic you want and write your essay on that particular topic.

Source 2) EssaysCapital Contests
If you have "superb skills in creative and critical thinking," then this is the best chance to showcase it to the rest of the world.
The contest runs from February 15 to June 25, 201. The finalists will be notified through e-mail on July 1, 2016.
The essays should be between 1,000-1,700 words. The essays should be in English, and they stress the paper should be UNIQUE. It should be original, no plagiarism will be tolerated.
You should attach your work as word document (docs, odt, doc or rtf format). Your contact information should be provided on a separate page of the document.
Topics have been provided on which your essays should be based on.
a) The Pro and or Con Arguments for the Death Penalty.
b) Human Cloning Pros and Cons: Should People Interfere With Nature?
c) Should Animals Be Used for Research? Is The Role Replaceable?

On the title bar of your email write ‘EssayCapital Writing Contest.’ Your name, age and country from which you are writing your essay should be included in the body of the e-mail. The essay itself as indicated above should be attached as word document in the formats provided.

3) 2016 International Navies Essay Contest
Held every year, The International Navies Essay Contest aims to encourage authors (not necessarily experts in this field but also civilians) to "offer innovative ways to address the challenges or opportunities facing a single navy, or more broadly, to address an issue affecting many navies. Any contribution that advances the professional, literacy, and scientific understanding of sea power and other issues critical to global security will be considered for a prize."
The challenge on which the topic of your essay should be based on is: ‘Globalization creates many maritime challenges for all of the world’s navies as well as existing and potential partnerships and coalitions. It also generates opportunities.’
The prizes including a one-year membership in the Naval Institute are:
First prize: $5000
Second prize: $2,500
Third prize: $1,500
The deadline of submitting your essays is on July 1, 2016
Please do not send them previously published essays; and, footnotes, endnotes or sources do not contribute to word count.
